Dialectical Hindrance In English Pronunciation

Introduction
For some people in Indonesia, speaking English is so difficult. This is caused by factors of dialectical function in original native languages. As you know that Indonesia has many native languages such as, Sundanese, Balinese, Javanese, etc. All natives languages interfere the system of their communication. Speaking English which is rich of the system of structures makes them frustrated to learn English. This page, I hope, will help them to know more about what they feel. For my beloved visitors, my observation and research concerning this study, of course, is not perfect yet. Therefore, further discussion will be appreciated to find the best solution for English learners. This is a mirror for other countries which have the same problem in speaking English.

Point of Discussion: Case Study in Javanese Native Language
In this opportunity, I would like to discuss about Javanese native language. I can say that there are so many Javanese speaks English fluently. "Fluently", in this case, is good in building a sentence or a clause and can write in excellent grammatical sentences or passages. However, they are poor in pronunciation.

In relation to the title above, I can say that dialectical system becomes "hindrances" or barrier in communication. Here's some of the samples I found:

  • letter, would be pronounced heavily as in, Though or The (but, in heavy manner)
  • letter, would be pronounced longer as in, Sleep (but, too longer than usual)
In English conversation, listener would not feel interrupted or disturbed by the way they pronounce but it sounds so strange (sorry ... so funny! :author). Besides, They usually speak in a sudden rising and falling intonations for all contexts and expressions.

Temporarily Solution
After doing some research and collect some sample and compare the variables found through direct observations and library, we find that this hindrance, basically, can be solved by using some methods that they should do regularly.

Theory
Learning a foreign language as a second language, of course, will not be far from the activities in practicing it. Without communicating it again and again, best result will never be reached. It is said that practice makes perfect. the more they practice better will be.

Details of Discussion: Resolution
For hundreds years, Javanese speaks by their own dialectical system. This influences the way they act, think and express something. In speaking they always use the foreword and so and so.
English language and its system can be integrated in their daily activity when they speak English a lot with only foreigner, in this case, is native speakers.

After doing some observation, we find that there two native languages that would destruct the system of their dialectical pronunciation:
  • American Dialectical System of pronunciation and Intonation
  • British Accent.
Both of them, of course, has a weakness in destructing the Javanese dialectical system.

American Dialectical System of pronunciation and Intonation
This accent is good to break the /d/  letter in slang accent. Besides, when American grumbles about something, system of this Grumbles can be used to reduce the system of intonation.

British Accent
In British accent will be used when they can speak in good American's  pronunciation and intonation. In other words, british style and accent becomes the final therapy to synchronize both system of native dialects (American and British).

Conclusion
However, all the things will be in vain when the theory is omitted.
